The Jenny Henderson North Carolina
Filmography Collection

The New Hanover County Public Library, North Carolina Room, has received Jenny Henderson's Filmography Collection files, compiled for her book, "The North Carolina Filmography." This book covers films made between 1905 and 2000.

The criterion for inclusion in this index of her collection is that any part of the film, no matter how short, was made in North Carolina. This includes studio films, documentaries, independent films, newsreels, student films, and television series. For many of the films listed there is a file is containing related ephemera.

Ms. Henderson has merged her files with the NHCPL North Carolina Room files covering local films. The combined collection is being augmented by her on a continuing basis with new titles.

An annotated filmography, with: alternate titles, type of film, studio, cities, counties, specific scenes, short synopses, director, producer, writer, executive producer, cinematographer, music and casting credits, additional crew, and cast.

"The North Carolina Filmography came about in 1987 when I discovered that it was impossible to find a source listing movies filmed in North Carolina. It has taken many years of reading old newspapers and compiling information. Research showed North Carolina (especially western North Carolina) to be an active area where motion pictures, documentaries, independent films, newsreels and educational films (listed as "doc" herein) are made. New movie studios and film schools brought "movies-of-the week," television series and student films into my scope. My criterion for a North Carolina film is that any part of the film was made in North Carolina, no matter how short (Hunt for Red October: a 2 minute scene). It has been my goal to give as much detail about every film as possible; as have many other film researchers. Of course, I found that much information (such as dates and crew names) was missing on the early films and most documentaries." - from the preface

The paper archive files are available for the use of researchers upon request in the North Carolina Room, New Hanover County Public Library, in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

There are NOT copies of any actual films in this collection.

These files include information on films shown or made locally, local theatres, and film personalities.
